GCH Fairland Farm AR Sirius 1*M VEE+ 86 (stale)

GCH Fairland Farm AR Sirius 1*M

Updated 1/16/20

What can we say about Sirius, aka Sissy? She has been with us from the start of our herd, she has the most wonderful personality and is a family pet. She has taught us that good things come to those that wait; as a first freshener, her udder was disapointing but we love her and will never sell her. As a 4 year old in 2018 she matured and blossomed into something truly special. She has become our first finished champion, but she still likes to take walks with the family, she is extra gentle with small children that visit, and I look forward to milking her every night. Having a barn full of goats like Sirius would be a dream come true.

We were very fortunate to acquire Fairland Farm AR Sirius from Fairland Farm in May, 2014.  The kids from Little Tot's Estate Acer Rubrum are so nice we just had to have another one. This correct little doe has the loveliest head!  We did not breed Sirius as a junior so her first freshening was in 2016.  Coming from a champion dam, we had high hopes that she would excel as well.

Sirius thrilled us by earning her dry leg at the Michigan Dairy Goat Association Show Spectacular, earning grand champion junior doe under judge Erin Griner. This was her first and only show in 2015, we hoped that she would remember to use her good walking manners in 2016.

Linear appraisal on Sept. 6, 2015 went good and we were satisfied with her young stock scoring of ++V +.  The appraiser had some good things to say about her and with a little maturity, much can change.

The Linear Appraiser in 2016 had much good things to say about Sirius. Her score for 2016 was ++VV 85. Starting out with a single buck kid caused some issues with her udder although we tried to keep her even by milking her twice a day. Sirius began improving when her kid was weaned and really peaked in late summer. She has good sized teats and orifices, she is often hand milked daily because she is cooperative and very easy to milk.

She attended 1 show in July 2016 where she took a 3rd and a 2nd place over some good competition and against 2nd fresheners. But best of all, she walked...and on all 4 feet and no cartwheels! Sirius has also been on milk test since her first freshening and as of her 6th test had enough butterfat to qualify, and happily she did earn her AR star in 2016

The 2017 show season began at Columbia City, IN. Sirius placed 2nd in the 3 year class. In championship, three year old doe (now SGCH) CUatLilRedBarn Gwen Quinn 4*M was chosen grand champion and later BIS. Gwen went on to become the ADGA Reserve Nationsl Champiin in 2017. We are very proud that Sirius was then selected as Reserve Grand Champion behind Gwen Quinn, this had to be the highlight of our whole 2017 show season! Sirius ended up going 4th in the other ring, then received firsts in all 3 rings at the Michigan Udder Side show in June.

The 2018 show season started with the Michigan Udder Side show. Sirius was 2nd place 4 year old in Ring B. Breeder Dawn Birr had some good tips for me to improve my showing skills. I then asked if she would show Sirius in Ring A which she graciously did, winning the class, the grand championship and beating the champion challenge. The following day I showed her and she again won her class as well as best udder in her class and then grand champion. We did not win the champion challenge this time but she won her third leg and has received the letter from ADGA acknowledging her permanent champion status of GCH. Sirius is our first finished champion and we could not be more thrilled with her.

In 2019, Sirius stayed home from the shows and raised her daughter Gemini Rising who is sired by Wood Bridge Farm Dot Matrix (owned by Fairland Farm). Our LA session was not until Sept so she was given a stale comment for her udder. Still we were quite pleased with her score of VEE+ 86. We are signed up for LA in 2020 and are in hopes the schedule will be a little earlier. Sirius is currently bred time Castle Rock Copper Penny *B for March 14 freshening.

GCH Fairland Farm AR Sirius 1*M

Sirius freshened for the first time in March 2016 with one giant buck kid. He is chocolate and is dappled with moon spots. One of our most exciting match ups for 2017 was the breeding with Sirius to Gypsy Moon A Lazuli and the resulting kids did not disappoint. We are retained one of the twin doelings (Pyxis Rising) and repeated this breeding for 2018. In April 2018, Sirius blessed us with buck/doe chamoisee twins both with blue eyes. As a 4 year old 3rd freshener, Sirius went on to finish her permanent championship.  Sirius was  bred to Wood Bridge Farm Dott Matrix for 2019 and blessed us with a single heavily moon spotted doeling (Gemini Rising) who we retained. She has been bred to Castle Rock Copper Penny for Match 2020 freshening.
